TIME
by Annette Martini
She wasn't like the other children
Took her longer to tie her shoes
They took her for a simple fool
How could people be so cruel
She didn't fit in with all their rules
But they never knew what she could do
How could people be so cruel
My heart would ache as I heard her say
Why don't you want to be my friend
They said we don't want you in our games
Then they turned away and they called her names
She didn't know how to be the same
As she hung her head in shame
And they called her names
I put my wings around her tight
Calmed her terrors in the night
She was a child born to be bright
There were stars shining in her eyes
She only knew how to be kind
Loving everything as it went by
Arms reaching to the sky
Hoping for a little time
She needed more time to understand
But the world just moved too fast
No one stopped to give her hand
Hurry up they cried or you'll be left behind
She wondered how long this all would last
Please be a part of the past
Hurry up they cried
Among lost friends she carries a smile
Shaking her head not knowing why
Survivors will always try
Integrity she carries with pride
Devotion and love written in her eyes
Always walking in the land of trial
There'll be no denial
I put my wings around her tight
Calmed her terrors in the night
She was a child born to be bright
There were stars shining in her eyes
She only knew how to be kind
Loving everything as it went by
Arms reaching to the sky
Hoping for a little time
