SOLITARY HOUSE
by Annette Martini
Looking at the house of my youth
At the stairs I climbed to the roof
I always counted them one at a time
Before walking through the door inside
I never thought I would be standing here
Where I spent so many, many years
A strange feeling comes over me
As I wonder what I will see
This solitary house
This solitary house
Is the house of my youth
Under the sky
The color of blue
I can still see the morning dew
Underneath the evergreen
Where I would hide and dream
I slowly walked from room to room
They were smaller then I assumed
Rooms filled with dreams and fears
That finally one day disappeared
I can hear the sound of running feet
In every room that I come to greet
The sound of childish laughter
Shadows of the past everywhere
This solitary house
This solitary house
Is the house of my youth
Under the sky
The color of blue
I can still see the morning dew
Underneath the evergreen
Where I would hide and dream
At last I came to my room
I can still see the light from the moon
The window where I laughed and cried
And where I had to say goodbye
Vivid memories all inside
Those filled with pain I've put aside
I see the face of a timid child
And at last I have found peace of mind
This solitary house
This solitary house
Is the house of my youth
Under the sky
The color of blue
I can still see the morning dew
Underneath the evergreen
Where I would hide and dream
